ONE PLACE TO HAVE FUN

The wise combination of the four elements

San Bartolomé de Tirajana is one of the place in the world where nature stopped in order develop inspiration. The extraordinary strength of the natural environment seems to come from those two unique elements whose mutual understanding is impossible.  water and fire. Oceans and volcanoes have magically combined their forces in order to give birth to Maspalomas Costa Canaria.

Nature has enjoyed showing us all the forces of the elements: EARTH, sometimes as golden sand and other times as black volcanic sand. WATER, from the intense and ondulatory Atlantic Ocean which splashes our coasts. FIRE, from sleepy volcanoes and the warm sun which turns up day after day. AIR, clean and pure breeze which caresses us and which is breathed and fills us with all its essence.

THE VOICES OF ITS RAVINES

The municipality of Villa de San Bartolomé de Tirajana is 333.12 square km large and stretches over a triangle whose vertex is located on the highest point of the island, at 1949 metres of height, the peak "Pico de las Nieves", in an area known as "La Cumbre" (the summit). This municipality takes up the fifth part of the island of Gran Canaria. Its boundaries are, on the northern side, the municipalities of San Mateo and Valsequillo. On the north-eastern side, Tejeda. On the western side, Mogan, on the eastern side, Santa Lucía de Tirajana and, on the souther part, the Atlantic Ocean.

The island is almost rounded, looks like a tent or big cone, cut through by a net of ravines which come down from the central mountains to the coast, which gives rise to his part of the island, and to a rough relief. This singular-feature relief is a sort natural laboratory where many different landscapes and microclimates coexist, scarcely separated by a few kilometres. The landscapes are very varied and visitors will go, without realising it, from the smooth shapes of the sun dunes to the precipitous crags of the mountains, from the intense blue sea to the bright green pine forests. From the majestic sun to the overcast sky over the mountains, where snow can ocassionally surprise visitors. This is a space of contrasts with beautiful and original spots formed by the evolution of million years where either nature and men have left their mark.

Un lugar para disfrutar

WHERE THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES

San Bartolomé de Tirajana is one of those exceptional places where visitors will enjoy a spring weather all over the year. The climatic features of this area are not affected, as in the rest of the island, by the influence of the trade winds, in such a way that the dryness and the constant temperatures determine its singularity. Rains are scarce and the sky is usually clear and cloudless for most of the year. Temperatures are regular all over the year with an average temperature between 21 and 23ºC.

The coastal temperature is mild, due to the tempering effect of the sea. However, the altitude of this municipality and its orographic setting, the mid slopes and mountains experience a higher thermal contrast in winter and summer. This feature makes this municipality even more attractive, since visitors can occasionally choose whether sunbathing and swimming in the sea or playing with snow, possibilities only one hour long from each other.
