ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This beach was granted the blue flag in 1990. It is the most emblematic beach in Gran Canaria due to its beauty and singularity. This beach is about two kilometres and half large from the building of the lighthouse, El Faro, architectural patrimony, to the the point Punta de Maspalomas, the joint with Playa del Inglés.
This beach is part of the Special Natural Reserve of the Dunes of Maspalomas (Reserva Natural Especial Dunas de Maspalomas), with 403.0 hectares of sand dunes, a pond and a palm grove. This natural reserve is a place of interest from the point of view of the landscape, geography and morphology, botany and fauna, unique in the Canary Islands. At the eastern part of the beach, there is a walk with many restaurants, shops and bars. There is an area to practise nudism. This area is known as La Punta o Cañada de la Penca, easy to locate since this is the point where the direction of the coast changes. This is the most souther point of Gran Canaria. This a beach with golden sand and still waters. The only dangerous point to swim is the point La Punta de Maspalomas, due to the junction of the northern and southern currents.
HOW TO REACH THE BEACH:
From the motorway GC-1, take the diversion indicating Maspalomas. Follow the indications from the road GC 500 southwards. At the third roundabout (next to a petrol station), turn left and drive along the avenue Avda. Cristóbal Colón to area of the lighthouse. From this area, walk along a small walk with shops on the left side of the lighthouse. 200 m from the lighthouse, there is a big pay parking. Public transport available.
